Local food advocates in the Roanoke Valley have prepared the first
Roanoke Valley Locavore Directory. This directory is a
compilation of local growers and retailers, their farm products, and
their contact information within the greater Roanoke Valley. It
is available in print and on the Web site
A locavore is someone who eats food grown or produced locally.
The Roanoke Valley Locavore Directory will be invaluable to both
locavores and growers within this region as a tool to advertise
businesses and inform customers of seasonal items, including fruits,
vegetables, meats, cheeses, and other farm products. The web-based
directory features real-time updates; social networking; and
blogging.
The directory is seeking producers in or serving the greater Roanoke
Valley, including the counties of Allegheny, Bedford, Botetourt, Craig,
Floyd, Franklin, Roanoke, and Rockbridge. If you are a local food
producer or business interested in participating in the 2010 Roanoke
Valley Locavore Directory, please visit www.RoanokeValleyLocavore.com to complete the online registration form.
The Locavore Directory is a collaboration of Virginia Cooperative Extension, VT EarthWorks, Local Roots Café, Local Environmental Agriculture Project
, EcoFriendly Foods, and other local food advocates. If your business
is interested in being a sponsor of the Roanoke Valley Locavore
Directory, please contact one of the project leaders to discuss
sponsorship tiers.
